especially those who didn't go on account of the borg (the vast majority).
do you regret this decision?
if you did go what would you have studied?
I didn't go because at the time I hated school. Not raised in the "truth" my parents we're very into higher education but could not convince me of the need. I regret it now. Even as an active witness I encouraged my chhildren to go. Now that I'm fading I'm still encouraging my children to go. I have one child starting in the fall. YAHOO!!!!

Seeing as how my children are active JW's I don't expect anything from them, so thank you.

i'm curious to know reasons for wanting to be an elder?.
some have expressed to me they wanted to use their abilities to help others.. another said he wanted to be in the inner circle to make sure he was able to look after his families' interests in the event of any future mishaps by his children.. i think many just get caught in the web of handling microphones, then ministerial servant then elder.. i know it's easy for me to say as i wasn't any of these (apart from microphones) but .
i can't help thinking for most men it is simply helping to fulfill a desire for more power.. many don't seem content to be viewed as a mere publisher but want to get in on the action, knowing all the gossip and being involved on decisions.. is it true that deep down, even though most may have good motives, it is still out of a feeling of self importance.. thanks .
I never wanted to be an elder but accepted the possition because I was trying to do what I was being taught God wanted. I believed the lie.
i was raised in the witnesses from the 1960's on and my dad was an elder who invariably was taking care of congregation problems with publishers, constantly.
how many of us remember wives and children sitting at the back of the halls waiting for an after meeting elders meeting to finish, only to get more frustrated as an hour or so would go by?
for those of us raised in this it was always congregation business first, family second.
I am an ex elder. I could never understand elders that put the congregation before their own family. When my first child started high school I could see that I needed to spend more time at home than i could if i were an elder, so I resigned. To be fair, the org. literature always said to put your family first. To me it is more of an inditement of the men who beocme elders and there reason for doing so. It is for personal glory and not necessarily to serve others. Case in point, my wife's father has been and elder for over 45 years and every thing she has ever done has been looked at through the lens of how it would reflect on him. She has a lot of resentment about that.

I dropped a test lead and blew up a 1,500.00 circuit board today so don't feel so bad. just remember, the only person that doesn't make a mistake is the person who doesn't do anything!!

i was talking to my trying-to-exit-the-cult fraternal twin brother yesterday about life, the jehovah's witness cult, and our jw parents.. he repeated, calmly and succintly, that he hates our parents.
i could not argue with him.
i used to, being a parent myself.
Better you vent here rather than at VT with a gun!!

found this scientific article:.
basically it is found that early europeans (7000 years ago) were mostly lacking the gene that makes it posible to digest milk.. modern europeans have this gene for 90%.
they argue that the gene has advantage for childhood survival and therefore has become dominant.. this proves natural section at work.
To be fare, I don't think that the WTS ever said that there was no natural selection only that it doesn't prove evolution only adaptation. They say that things do adapt to there environment. They say that certain traits can be brought out, look at all of the different type of dogs but no matter how much you breed special traits a dog will never evolve into something else. However, I dissagree, I can see too much evidence of evolution to discount it.

the megamillions in new jersey (where i work) and other states is up to u.s.$260,000,000.
got my ticket, my hopes and my dream.
i can't remember the reason why as a jw i was told it was wrong to participate in the lottery, bingo and other such games.
This has been a particular pet peve of mine. Since gambling is not prohibited in the bible, the WTS prohibits gambling by saying that if you gamble you are doing it because you are greedy and greed is a sin.
Now I have a problem with this on many levels. First of all why is it that everybody that gambles is greedy? If so then isn't investing your money in the stock market to make money without working for it greedy as well, and dosen't the WTS invest millions?
Secondly how does this sin rise to the level of a disfellowshiping offense? Nowhere in the bible does it say to shun greedy people?
Just my thoughts
